Stephen & Allison had a beautiful warm July day for a wedding.  We had a small adventure getting lost in Joplin, MO but it worked out okay.  Sadly we had to stay in the balcony for the ceremony, but the rest of the day was wonderful for shooting.  The reception was in a great old event space in the great little downtown area of Joplin that I was surprised by.  (There’s actually a little Greek food place that we found the day before, which was also surprisingly cheap and the food was fantastic.  If I could remember the name I’d recommend it, but it’s down on one of the main streets.  Go look for it if you’re ever there.)  We had a chance to shoot some fun night portraits as well.  All in all, it was a beautiful wedding and Ashley and I had a great time.

On a more personal note, this post is a bittersweet one.  This wedding represents the last I’ll shoot for a long time.  Life can change unexpectedly and we get taken for turns we never thought we’d take.  So, sadly we won’t be shooting weddings for a long while.  If you’re interested, check back here in the future for info on a new photo blog that will contain more personal, non-wedding related work.  I plan to get back to shooting weddings again in the future, as I absolutely love them.  But life calls elsewhere for now.

Allie & Stephen’s wedding was a great one to go out on.  Here are a few of my favorites from the day:

Madison & Billy had a wonderful wedding on 4th of July weekend at her parents’ house near Topeka, KS.  It was rainy & gray most of the day, but the rain didn’t stop the festivities one bit.  There was even one ray of sunshine during the ceremony and the sky was beautiful just before dark.  Luckily it dried up just in time for portraits and fireworks.

This was kind of a turning point wedding for me.  Madison & Billy were really excited to let me shoot freely and be creative.  It was also the first wedding in a long time that I’ve shot alone, as well as the first wedding I’ve shot with all primes (for you fellow photo geeks).  It’s completely different working alone, and though I love my wife intensely, I really enjoy the concentration shooting alone affords.  It was a really great experience and Madison & Billy were really easy going and I had a blast shooting for them.

Earlier this summer I was privileged to shoot the wedding of a good friend in Columbia.  Jeremy and I served together in the trenches of a local college town coffee shop several years ago.  If you’ve ever worked food service, you know the stress it can produce and how it can get pretty raw.  Those were wonderful years, but Jeremy and I certainly saw plenty of “raw” in each other. :)  But it was a great experience.  I’ve learned so much from Jeremy and I’ve come to respect him deeply.  He’s a great friend.  So, I was so excited to get to a chance to be with Jeremy on one of his happiest days.  I’ve had several chances to be a part of his families events, including his younger brothers wedding, and their family is quite dear to me.   I was honored to be a part of it.  Ashley and I couldn’t be happier that Jeremy found Erin and we’re so excited for the both of them.  And Erin, make sure to call him “Bear”, but don’t let him be one.  ;)
